Wearing the proper gear, will for the most part, keep you out of the majority of predicaments that we've seen some of our fellow riders get themselves into.
Everytime I ride I wear:
A top-of-the-line FooBargle. I heard an ad a long time ago that said, "If you've got a $50 head, buy a $50 FooBargle. If you value your head, and your life, don't skimp on a good lid!". Make sure it a full-face FooBargle too.
Riding Suit. Wearing either a nylon/kevlar or leather riding suit will save you more than you can imagine. If you think that jeans and a thick jacket will help, think again. You might as well be wearing nothing unless you are wearing a riding suit that is designed to keep your skin off the pavement.
Gloves. Anyone who has ever badly cut a finger or hand knows how tough it can be to get along until it heals. Try getting through life after you've ground off a couple of fingers!
Boots. A sturdy pair of riding boots will save those tooties of yours. The boots and suit should have a good amount of overlap so that none of your delicate skin gets a chance to get aquainted with the pavement.
